Mounting Screw...For the Love of God!!! Last viewed: 5 minutes ago

Loading...

Hey Gents....I know somebody or many of you on this forum have some mounting screws kicking around. Last night I found a top lug off my 70's Ludwig 6.5x15 snare hanging on for dear life. After I removed the head and found the two screws had come off, once I tried to tighten them back I discovered to my HORROR that one is stripped. I hope it isn't the lug/mount. Can somebody out there please help. It is such a small part, but an enormous problem for me as these are impossible to find. They are about 7/8 of an inch long.DOH

Get thee to the closest hardware store--preferably a mom and pop type. Screws for some of your favorite brands of drums may have once resided in the bulk bins of "Joe's Hardware" just down the street from the drum factory. Rarely, have I come up empty when looking for screws, nuts, bolts, washers, springs for my vintage Rogers, Slingerland, Leedy, Ludwig, Walberg & Auge drums, pedals, and stands.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

Bummer

This wouldn't fix your problem, but if you switch around and use a screw that you know is good and try it on the suspect lug, and try your suspect screw on a known good lug, you will know if you have a screw, or lug, or both problem/need.

Just a suggestion for you

That overly simple trial is so basic that I forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder to make certain the actual problem or need has been diagnosed before running out to buy parts. Let me add that I always take the part(s) to be replaced and the part(s) that the new part(s) mate with to the store.

Hey Gentlemen.....before I checked my post, I did try using a working screw. It is a little of both, the lug and screw. So far what worked was removing the washer and using only the screw with the "star" lock washer. I was able to get it tight, but it digs right into the wood. Maybe a longer screw would work, since it seems to catch in deeper into the lug to tighten? What do you think guys?DOH

Get a lug and a screw would seem the thing to do.

For a quick fix.. Put a small dob of liquid nails in the lug hole (Use a matchstick to insert it), insert the screw about half way, let it go off for a couple of hours & then tighten the screw..

It's worked for me... Don't get any on the lug collar or the washer.

Cheers

Hi Freedom,

Marketed over here just as "Liquid nails".. It's a high strength building adhesive comes in tube form. used for many applications timber/concrete/masonary/ metal, must be known over there as something else?

I'm sure there would be an equivalent.. But heres a link.

Cheers

John
