Please forgive me if this posting sounds like it was written by a giddy school girl. I've always had a Round Badge appetite, but an MIJ budget. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined getting this sort of deal, but yesterday my hunt of obscure live auctions finally paid off. The estate sale included primarily farm equipment, hundreds of license plates, bicycles and old advertising signs. The pre-sale listings included a 'Five Piece Gretch Set', with Gretsch spelled wrong and one lousy picture of a three piece set. The auctioneer started the bidding by saying 'Next up, an old Ludwig drumset'.
Here's what I got for $400:
Round badge set (no interior tags or markings) in sizes 13x9, 16x16 and 14x20. Ludwig pre-serial number Supraphonic, no pitting and heavy- might be COB. 18 inch Zildian ride with a 60s stamp. 13 inch Zenjian (Italian maker), 13 inch thin Vibra crash (also Italian maker). These two were set up as hi-hats. The Zenjian is heavy and may be a hat cymbal, but the thin Vibra does not appear to be a hat. It sounds amazing as a crash. Speed King WFL Bass Pedal (frozen) & Speed King hi-hat stand (rough). Rogers Swivomatic pedal (also frozen). Drum keys, tambourine, throne, flat base cymbal stand, music stands, two guitar stands, mallets, beaters, sticks brushes. Soft cases, hard cases.
At the bottom of the hard cases, I found 3 vintage Shure Electro Voice Microphones (one never used), 2 Shure Unisphere mics, a microphone/instrument mixer and assorted cables and mic stands. Based on some quick look at completed ebay listings, I may be able to sell the recording gear for $200-$300.
I've got lots of questions, which I'll post a bit later. I have a stinger hangover and need to get some rest.
Thanks
