Just picked up a set of 1970's Fibes drums. They're the clear
acrylic type of shells. It has a 24" bass, 13 and 14" rack toms,
a non-matching import floor tom, and an import snare, the last
two drums I'll getting rid of. It also has Avanti cymbals, which were
painted black. Lastly a Sp?? brand of hi-hat and seat. last night,
I took the 13" tom apart and gave it a Dawn bath, then cleaned all
the chrome parts. Something that was interesting about this set, is
that they were purchased at the famous Frank's Drum Shop in
Chicago. The bass needs a front hoop-has chrome inlay, bottom
hoops for the rack toms, and of course a matching floor tom. Did
some price shopping on Precion drum's site for a new 16 x 16
clear shell, and it was over $300. Nice thing, is that all of these
drums have all their lugs. I can't get over how hefty these drums
are, as far as weight goes. Not really in love with how the tom
mounts behave, though. Need some time to play around with this
design of hardware. The rack tom mount is a hex-shaped piece of steel that T's out to each tom, then goes into a nylon ball in each tom.
These belonged to a drummed who was the brother-in-law of
a guy I know, who told me about the drums. He also had some
nice guitars for sale. The original owner had died, and the family
is trying to sell his instruments. Any help out there from Fibes
owners would be welcome. The first tom cleaned-up pretty well.
I'll work on the rest as I have time. Any idea what these drums
might be worth, once refurbished?? I used Meguire's plastic
cleaner for headlights to clean the first tom shell. Am tempted to
track down some of the novus products to continue. So far, so good.
