My first engraved drum ! Now what ? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

Hey guys I scored my first engraved snare. It's a little lower on the food chain than most engraved drums but still really cool. It's an early Leedy Black Elite with Multi-Model engraved on the hoop. Shell looks to be in pretty good shape other then a slight indentation over one of the strainer holes. But there are no extra holes or anything crazy. The gold paint on the hoops and lugs is pretty far gone. Look okay in pictures but trust me they are jacked.

Looking for info on the approximate year and how to clean and restore these types of drums. I would like to initially like to just give it a bath to knock the 60 or 70 years of funk off this thing but I am a little scared to use anything that might damage the finish.

Any info and links are greatly appreciated.

skapunk - Congrats on scoring a great vintage drum! The man you want to talk to is, Mike Curotto. PM him with a photo of your snare along with your question about how best to detail the drum. Mike is 'The Man' when it comes to restoring those old-timers.

Enjoy it for many years to come...

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Thanks John. I got in contact with Mike when I first got the drum and he was finishing up a drum lesson. He seemed eager to give me some advice but I have had trouble getting back in contact with him for whatever reason.

It was a non feebay auction. Didn't really get it cheap. Around 400.00 plus shipping to AZ. I thought the price was about right considering the condition and current market. but i really wanted one for my collection.
