My intro, and a question. Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Hi guys and gals. I'm cfk79 from Ontario. I've been lurking here for a while, and have gained some great knowledge. I've been playing for about 15 years.

A while ago I purchased a swirl vistalite kit in black and white, 12,13,14,15,16,22. The bass was cracked and fixed, there was a chip in the bottom edge of the 15, and there were no spurs, tom mount, or tom legs, and the bottom skin on the 16 fits tight. The price was to good to turn down. I build stave drums, so I thought if the drums were junk, I'd just use the hardware on my own kits. They sounded good to me, so I've played them for a while using snare stands for the toms.

Recently I've decided to try to trade them on local buy and sell sites. I was asking for a 4/5pc quality kit, with or without a snare. It seems like I've insulted some folks. I was was hoping for an $800 kit in the end. Am I way off? That's not that much more than I payed. And one more question, at what point is a vistalite kit considered junk, I'd rather not cannibalize a 35 year old kit, and I was trading them so I could have a ply kit to compare with my staves. I haven't played a lot of different kits and was trying to diversify. Here are some pictures of the damage. The lugs are perfect. The bearing edges are pretty good, they're a bit funky at the seams on some, but they tune fine. I could easily cut new edges, but I was afraid of taking away any value that they had.

So to sum it up, Have I overvalued this kit, and if so, at what point do I part them out. I'm not trying to get rich, I just would rather a ply kit.

First of all Welcome

Secondly, It's a sad day when a Vistalite Swirl can't fetch $800.It would be a shame to cannibalize them for parts! I saw a 5 piece blue Vista go for $1200 plus tax locally that had obvious seam repairs. There are vista snares on ebay for $500, so no I don't think you have overvalued this kit. If I had a kit to let go I wouldn't think twice. I only have my 60's Rogers, a keeper, and my Ludwig Modular, which I need for small gigs.

There seems to be a lot of Ontarians on here so hopefully they will attract some attention. You might want to ask a moderator to move this to the For Sale section or start a new thread there. Good luck!

Some folks must be easily offended! Doesn't sound to me like you were asking for too much at all.

Vistalites, especially the patterns, may not be everybodys cup of tea, but someone looking for them should think your offer is fair.

You have not overvalued your kit, you just need to find a buyer who wants to use them, not re-sell them.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys, they were very helpful. I ended up trading them to a local guy who seems to collect vistalites, he had some of the nicest drums I've ever seen. I left his place with a 60s slingerland 4pc., in blue pearl that's faded to green. Absolutely beautiful, my first vintage ply kit. I sure hope he's happy, because he is a really nice guy, and I'm on cloud nine. Thanks again guys.

Don't worry $800 seems fair to me. I don;t see this swirl up for sale too often either. Most people are lowball cheap skate idiots. Just ignore them :)

I'd hunt down the matching snare and keep them all.

The guy who got them actually had the same kit, except with concert toms. Now he has a two bass setup. Seemed like the perfect person to have them. I had sooo many people not show up, or that were just plain rude. Seems like some folks abuse their anonimity. I'm glad to be rid of them.
