I had a set of ole Smellies too.

I just took some fine sand paper and scuffed up the inside than shot a couple thin coats of lacquer.

Ah, The sweet smell of Lacquer. Weeeeeeeeeeee!

I'd like to see a picture of that smell... See if it's like some old tennis shoes I have...

I'd love to take a pic of the smell, but my new digital camera doesn't have the smellovision feature... some to think of it, my new cellular isn't equipped with smellophone either! On a serious note, I cut holes into the bottom heads (which were hardened anyway) and just left them to air out in the tool shed. I must admit that it helped immensely! I'm going to take them apart on the weekend and give them a good thorough cleaning, after which I'll air them out some more... I'm hoping that'll do it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed... and my eyes! LoLoLoLo

Washing is good....... ZorbX is a great stink killer to follow up with. I had a Gibson guitar that had a stinky case...... Zorbx fixed that pretty darn well.

Try a wash down with some TSP. That usually gets many odors at least reduced. TSP=TriSodiumPhosphate and you can get it at any home center, such as Depot or Lowe's.
