my "brand new" old slingerland Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Hi everybody!

For me birthday came earlier this year. guitar3

In the add was only :" slingerland 24, paiste 500 e"

I went to see it , and there was 24, 12 ,13 ,16, but rewraped in black. To cut the crap:

I ended with , beside slingy, :

2 boom cymbal stands (one almost new yamaha, and other dont know, but ultra massive.

1 snare stand , also ultra massive

1 hi hit stand and 1 pedal (also dont know what , but not

that good)

1 paiste alpha 20" ride, good as new

1 sabian solar 14" hihats , new

1 paiste 302 crash 16" , not so new.

He gave me a lot of drumsticks and a drumkey and even a chair (something custom made).

Almost forgot , snare drum 14" pearl export , in excellent

condition with new heads, and snare wire.

I didn't even ask him to reduce the cost, but he offers me

all that for 400E, so I took it.

I thing that is a hell of a bargain. I must emphasize that

slingis are not so common here (Serbia, not Siberia :) ) like in U.S. ...

The seller even called me after to told me that he forgot to give me

spare drum pedal beater. Great man! Bowing

Here are some pics, but more will come.

The serial numbers :

12" - 351252

13" - 348286

16" - 353601 all Black and Silver Oval Badge

24" - 136816 Black and Brass Niles Oval Badge.

I not so upset about not being in original condition,

because I got a great instrument. The seller told me that

he got it 20-30 years ago from a guy who bought it in London. First owner probably did the rewrap.

I cant determine which model it could be (or combination,

24 seems older, according to badge number?!?)

I am eager to share this with people who understand how I feel now, so .....

What to you think?

Congratulations, marko! Other than not being original, I think the black wrap is nice. I see aftermarket T-rods and claws on the bass drum, but I think you got a real good deal. With the exchange rate, you paid about $530US, which I think is a good price for everything you got and especially if Slingerland drums are hard to find in your country. The most important thing is that they will surely sound very good!

According to this graph, http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/drcjw/article_2_serial_numbers_page3.html, your bass drum is from the late 60s and the others are late 70s.

Enjoy!

That's a great set! Excellent deal too, even by my stateside standards. That must be a pretty rare find in Serbia. Be proud!

I love Slingerlands. Just picked these up, 24/13/16. For comparison, I paid $550.00 US, and felt they were a good deal. You got a *great* deal.......

Thanks everybody.flowers2 I am very proud. As the time passes I feel more and more excited about it. Cant wait to play it on some gig.

Yes, I saw the graph before.

I will shoot the different lugs on bass drum, so you can tell me which are original. It looks to me that there are two types of slingys claws on it.

Also I will post pics of interior, and bearing edge. Of course I will try to figure out which shell I have, according to the shell pics on VDGuide...

But these days I don't have much time so probably after weekend....

Also I forgot to mention "P" inside one of the tom shells.

I read somewhere on forum that means Paint or something????

According to the seller , first owner bought it in London.

Hello, marko! P means pearl. Slingerland called all of their wraps pearls, such as marine pearl or sparkling green pearl or pink champagne pearl, etc. If you see a Slingerland shell with an M stamp, it would have received a "paint job."

Here they are guys. Who knows what this drum would tell, if he just could speak :)

But that's the cool thing about vintage gear isn't it ?

Here are the pictures of bass drum edge (1) and interior (2) and tom edge (3) and interior (4).

Also the different t rods and claws.

There is 3 types of claws and 4 of t rods. All of claws looks slingy to me, and that is so you must tell me am I right. About t rods , only sure about 4, think that 3 is also slingy but .....DOH

Also If you can tell me from the edge which wood is in it...

What do you think about heads ? It came with ebony pinstripe, and resonant heads that are cut. I was thinking coated ambs, maybe emperor (not sure) on batter, and clear ambs on reso side. On bass I have pinstipe that I think to keep and put a coated ambs as reso. I play in a rnr bend.

Thanks a lot!!!!!!!
