Wow...Ocasek sure was mellow back in '79...he was movin' around a lot more by '82.

Dammit...I'm f#ckin' old.....

That was a musically underappreciated band, actually. A lotta folks consider them to have been "bubblegum"...but actually their MUSIC had a lot of references to old R & R and irony as well.....

Bubblegum? The Cars? hmmm.....never heard anybody call them that before....but then again they were from my area......so I guess we had an appreciation for them as the "local guys". I'll agree with you Jaye, very under appreciated. But, if you tune in to the radio, you'll still hear just about every song from the first album on it......strange how people perceive them as just another new wave band.....they were a great pop/rock band. A little ahead of their time too.....with all the electronic technology, syndrums, synares....and later simmons drums mixed in with the slingys and later tamas....

A moment for Ben Orr.........

thank you.......

Anyway, I've been toying with the idea of forming a Cars tribute band....there certainly is enough material.....just, is the interest out there for it? I know I'd go check it out, but would anyone else? thats the question......

Ok, now that I've well and truly hi-jacked this thread.....Car Driving2

This is gonna sound stupid, but I didn't even know Ben Orr had passed. Now I'm depressed...

Anyway...back on topic:

The nice thing about a set of old Slinys in Black Chrome is....they are kinda sought after and considered on the valuable side...as opposed to the regular chrome ones, which are NOT sought after and, actually, a bear to try to just UNLOAD at all...never mind getting a good pric for 'em.

At least around here it's that way....

I've been super busy lately but here's a teaser. I got all the missing muffler parts and all the original tom mounts. All I need now is the chrome inlays, and I'm working on a way to mount the toms on my dw hardware.

Enjoy!

I'm in the minority (I'm used to it), but I LOVE those Blakrome kits. I had the tom in my hands in a music store WAY back when. I had the money on the counter to purchase the kit. I pulled it at the last minute. I walked away and have desired one ever since. I catch myself watching them on ebay and such. I really want one, but cannot justify it. I've had way too many kits flow through my house to warrant yet another just because...

Man, I really like those kits. That tom was so doggone heavy. I felt it could withstand any amount of punishment. I was hitting pretty hard back then (young and stupid). I looked deep into that finish and couldn't believe how intense it was. Wow.

If someone has a Blakrome kit...I have a cat I'd be willing to trade.

Wow, those are beauties!

They are definitely the dark chrome and not "regular" chrome.

I have actually been looking for Slingy's in that finish for ages...with any or all of the following tom sizes: 6", 8" 10" 12" 13" 15" 18" (2) 24"

I have a kit in mind that I've always wanted to build. (See photo below)

I keep looking, but nothing yet.

Does anyone know if that wrap is available for sale? Never seen it anywhere, just the regular mirror-chrome stuff.

I know you just got it, but if you're ever interested in selling...! : )

Take care.
