My Slingerland HSS 1994 Purchase Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I recently purchased this kit on eBay... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Slingerland-Spirit-Series-Taiwann-1994-Build-It-Drum-Shell-Pack-Hardware-/171100516756?ssPageName=ADME%3AX%3ARTQ%3AUS%3A1123&nma=true&si=hWSiT%252F5GK%252Fyii2TGLbr%252BnKPXHFk%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 and it arrived today. For the price, I thought it would make a nice project kit. The seller advertised it as the Spirit series, which would have meant all mahogany shells. I just opened the box and inspected all the shells. What I discovered is that the shells are from the Artist Custom Series, 5-ply, with maple interior/exterior and 3 middle mahogany plies. Cool! The Slingerland Book says the Artist Custom was "made offshore, but with American wood", maple and mahogany.

So, I think I did pretty good. All shells are in VG condition and I just need to wrap them. Oh boy... another drum project!

Hey guys!

Thanks for the replies! The auction text makes no reference to the snare drum, even though you can see it in the pictures. The snare is basically an Artist model, complete with Zoomatic strainer in excellent condition!

I've looked at only a few of the lugs and other hardware, but, like the seller says, it's all in excellent cosmetic condition!

Not sure when I'll be starting on this project. I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel for my parents and then going on vacation around September 8th, for about 8-9 days. I'll have lots of time to decide on a wrap!

Looks like a fun project indeed! Choosing the wrap should be fun...and with a kit of this vintage and in the condition it is, the sky's the limit! Good luck.
