My student model Radio Kings Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

I clean my snare collection in groups and today was the student model Radio Kings turn. I play everyone of these especially the two 7" drums. My favorite is the blue silver blue drum, it has a mahogany inner ply and with an american vintage top head and ambassador snare side head it can get real fat. I know there not the most valuable vintage drums out there but I think they sound great.

Please post up the pics of your Student Radio Kings, i would love to see some different finishes.

I know I'm a couple of months late to the party, but I figured you'd like my most recent acquisition.

Pre-serial Niles in red sparkle, stamped "August 1962" inside.

This is a "before" picture; I've since polished the chrome on the lugs and rims and Novus'd the wrap. Photo of results to come.

There's an inscription in the reso rim, "EUSD OK 185." I bought it in San Diego, and Oak Knoll Elementary School is part of Encinitas Unified School District.

I wonder about how the drum got to Oak Knoll Elementary to begin with; I don't remember seeing any instruments other than pianos and autoharps at my elementary school. Then how did it get into this guy's hands? Did the school sell it at a thrift sale or donate it to a charity?

If it was once part of a collection of instruments at Oak Knoll Elementary, it's in pretty dang great shape! No dings, no dents, slight scratches on the wrap, slight pitting on the lugs.
