Mysterious Dynasonic Last viewed: 48 minutes ago

Alright, in my continuing trend of mystery drums, next up is this Rogers. From the serial #1785, I've gleaned that the drum is from 1961-2. However, I've never seen a Dynasonic that ISN'T a snare drum. This tenor/field drum has no extra holes, no snare bed/mechanism and has never been modified. In fact, it appears it's never even been played: I got it from a shop that catered to schools/lessons and it has heads that say "Rogers Weather King E1" heads without a stick mark on them. Drum is a 12"x15" and makes me almost cry just looking at it. I assume this drum is somewhat unusual. Please discuss...

I believe not to long ago there was a picture of Dynasonic bass drum posted... snares, marching snares, tenors, bass drums.

That is a link to Roger catalogs... find a comfortable spot and start digging. Coffee Break2

Rogers 10-lug marching drums, whether snares, tenors, or basses, were all labeled as Dynasonics while the 8-lug versions were Powertones. The fact that these tenors and basses were given Dynasonic serial numbers accounts for great gaps in the Dynasonic snare labels.

They made Dynasonic marching drums in basses, tenors and snares. That drum is a tenor drum. All Dynasonics had clear lacquer inside, and as mentioned had 10 lugs instead of 8 on the snares and tenors. I think they had extra lugs on the basses as well, not sure.

The drum in the photo has b&b lugs, from around 1963. It looks to be NOS, with only some shop wear. If so, it's an unbelievable find, having sat there for 50 years...

Thanks everyone. I think serial #1785 puts it more toward 1961-2.

I've been involved in trying to purchase marching snares in WMP from

this same era, early 60's. The drums I'm working on are tagged "Yorktown"

Cleveland origin. MY plan, once I get them, is to cut two of them down

in heighth and make snares for sets. I'm trying to buy four snares and a

marching bass drum, for parts. My local high school has them sitting

in a spare room, collecting dust. Still trying to get them.
