Mystery Bongo - Your input appreciated Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Hey folks,

I've got this pair of old bongo drums which I don't know where to start to go about identifying them.

They were an addition to a 1950's era set, and as much as the local music store says that the missing head is irreplaceable, I was hoping for a second opinion.

There are no discernible marks other than an underlined pencil marking on the inside that says "CO".

I was hoping that someone could shed some light on this, here are some forum-friendly pictures...

I THINK those are the rare,WFL bongos like Ringo used in A Hard Days Night (or was it Help?).

WFL wouldn't be unheard of, the rest of the set is a WFL Ray McKinley Concert set.

That is interesting, I guess I'll do a little more internet sleuthing. Thank you for a starting point Blairndrums!

There was an auction on ebay.de about 6 months ago for a 4 piece Korri drum set with a similar set of matching Bongos. The Bongos were marked Korri and the rest of the kit was Tromsa but in their style, unbadged. Tromsa did build Korri drums but Korri also built some of their own stuff. Those Bongos were not built by Tromsa. They were gold sparkle and had exactly the same style of tuning system as these Ludwigs. I would guess, that the kit dated from the early 1950's based on the other elements of the kit.
