Hello, all! This is my first post here on the forums. I am excited to get to explore this community and learn a lot!
I'm hoping you guys can help me identify a drum that I picked up today from an antique shop. The shop owner mentioned that the previous owner told him he bought it in Frankfurt, Germany. It's a 13x5, 6-lug wood drum with gold sparkle wrap. There is no apparent writing, badge, or identification of any kind outside or inside the drum. The interior is a natural wooden finish. After some research, my father and I discovered this drum's strainer and lugs on other 60's Sonor drums. The drum has an internal muffler. And very uniquely, the lugs only tighten from the top hoop -- tension on the bottom head cannot be adjusted, as one lug connects both hoops. As such the shell just sort of floats in between the two. The drum also came with a strap of some kind (pictured below).
We also posted this drum on the Sonor Museum forums, where it was suggested that this shared a resmblance to the Sonor freefloating drum from the 70's, though those were only made in metal.
Here is a link to my photobucket album with some pics of the drum: http://s584.photobucket.com/user/PinesofRome/library/Mystery%20Drum
Any ideas would be super appreciated!
