I have a few ideas, but before I make any suggestions, does anyone instantly recognise this old Gretsch shell and hardware?

the 2 Gretsch catalogs that.
Thanks for the catalogue page, I hadn't been able to find one to confirm that this is indeed a Catalina, or at least the remnants of one. It only has seven of the eight lugs and is missing the throwoff which has the two screw 1.25" horizonal spacing. Unless someone has a convincing argument otherwise, I've been considering removing and selling the 7 lugs and replacing them with Adonis or similar single screw cylindrical units. The black paint isn't in amazing condition, I might try to buff it up a bit and see how that looks.
The 2 screw throw off you need can be found in the American.
The 2 screw throw off you need can be found in the American version-called the Presto 2pt. made by Leedy. The Premier Olympic version from that era would be difficult to find. The tension knob is different(phater) and the subtle twist to the arm release as well. I think the hole spacing to mount it to the shell is the same. I'd double check before throwing down to replace. Keep us posted. Nice snare! Gary
Thanks, I think I know the exact Leedy throw you're speaking off- commonly found on Reliant model snares? I think there's one hanging around the shop, I'll check it out. Sadly, I doubt I'll be able to find another yellow plastic lug, and I'll definatly have to use aftermarket hoops. I'm mainly interested in getting the slightly less popular but very melodic 3 ply shell up and running.
