I have this older kent snare which I am restoring. I think it may be '40s or '50s It has the white with gold flower type paper badge, and the single tension rod for top and bottom. What type of head should I use for the bottom to get an authentic vintage sound while keeping it tunable?

If it's a 1940s or 50s drum, I'd start by measuring the shell. In the mid/late 1950s, drum sizing changed a little bit. Before then, a 14" drum truly was 14". Since then, drums have been undersized just a bit. A modern 14" drum is typically about 13 7/8".
If it's a true 14" across the drum, I'd probably go with Aquarian American Vintage heads since they're sized just a bit large to fit old shells. If the drum is made to modern sizing, the Aquarian Modern Vintage could be a good choice. Same head as the American Vintage, but made for contemporary-sized shells. Another option I might try is the Remo Renaissance snare side head.
