Need help identifying Pearl kit!!! Last viewed: 6 hours ago

Guy is selling this kit and all hardware for $400. I would like to know what series and year this kit is from before I make a purchase. He's said that they were 80's exports but the lugs and tom mount lead me to suspect otherwise. Help please?

they aren't Exports. They pre-date the Export series. 1970s with the higher end President lugs. Looks like a nice kit

Early seventies for sure. I have a similar, but mixed kit. This kit looks like a mix of lugs from the 72 line and tom mounts from 73. Ask seller whether interior of shells are raw or have a grey coating, and how many lugs the floor tom has. The coated shells are far superior - my 72 six lug 16" floor tom shell is terrible - the other drums are 73 and are really solid. Here are catalog pages from both years - I can't seem to upload my own photos but will try again.

I still can't upload my own photos. But on closer inspection, this kit is the earlier and cheaper shells - 8 lug bass drum (mine is 10), thinner spurs, probably 6 lug floor tom. Again, ask about the shell interiors and check edges and roundness if you can. On the plus side, that's a lot of drums and hardware, maybe you can make an offer. Also, the wrap on mine is still gorgeous, and that red sparkle looks great too.

Thats awesome!! I've never seen a complete kit before. I have a pearl president snare in red sparkle. It's a ten lug if you can believe it! Has a real nice crack to it. The shell composition looks like phenolic but it sounds real sharp.

I bought a Pearl kit in Tiger's Eye (but otherwise like the sparkle red one in your pics) brand new from Drum City in Hollywood in the early 1970s. It was a middle of the road MIJ kit made out of Luan (Philippine Mahogany - not real mahogany). The hardware was pretty okay but I had to upgrade the kick spurs and attend to the bearing edges. The set screws on the tom adjusters used to come loose. I eventually sold mind that had quite a few improvements and upgrades for a little over $200 about six years ago.
