wasn't there a source of repro KS badges on ebay. Were they without serial numbers?

From Dante

Hi guys - I'm brand new to the forum and I'm looking for feedback on some drums I'm thinking of buying. It's a pre-serial Keystone badge Ludwig kit - 24, 14, 16, 18 and matching snare. The snare and the bass both look spot on. Seller believes everything is original as shown, but I see some details on the toms that have me scratching my head. I've attached some photos so you can see what I'm referring to. Q#1: is it possible to have two seams in an original wrap as shown on the floor tom photo? Or does that mean it is a re-wrap? Q#2: is it possible to have factory-installed muffler knob and badge this close together?Ludwig seems to be known for poor quality control, but I'm not sure if these fall into that category or not. Has anyone seen this before? Thanks for any insights you can offer.

To me, the snare looks to be a pre-serial Pioneer (has red baseball bat muffler). The rest, I agree with the fellas that they are 70s, maybe late late 60s.

As for the badges, It looks as if the seller either doesn't know what he has...maybe he is ignorant to vintage Ludwigs, or maybe he is trying to pull wool over your eyes... You are right, those other badges look a little.. off.

Just me.. but if I came across those, I would pay around $400-500. However, I am not in the market for that sort of set at this time.. If you really want them, I think $600 would be a fair price. Way off from the asking price!

I had a Hollywood kit back in the 80's with an 18" floor tom. The covering was in two pieces.

1971 Ludwig Rock Duo set in Blue Oyster Pearl
early Mapex dual bass drum Saturn kit
1964 Leedy Ray  Mosca kit in Blue Sparkle
1959 Slingerland Super Gene Krupa snare in WMP
1968 Slingerland Hollywood Ace Snare Drum
1969 and 1977 Ludwig 400 Supraphonic snares
1965 Acrolite snare
Ludwig Coliseum snare
'68 Rogers Dynasonic snare
Pearl free floating piccolo snare
13" Mapex piccolo snare
6.5" deep Mapex steel snare
Mapex 6.5" Brass snare
I know there's more snares than that.

The repro badges: Yep. My old Kentucky drums on eBay sells 'em. Nice repos as well. I bought them for the sieve kit I mentioned in another thread as 'most' of the badges were missing.

Now, when I ever pass that kit on to a new owner, it will be with before and after pix, and an explanation of the badges... that's called honesty, and maybe even integrity, although the latter will be hard to prove in my case.

purdie is right, that is WAY too much for that kit, even if it was original it may not bring that. Guys that do this, fake up a kit and attempt to pass them off as 'real' should be made to watch every episode of 'Honey Boo Boo' repeatedly for a year.

(Apologies if you're a HBB fan... never seen it. My grown daughters tell me it would gag maggots.)

So, I'd tell the guy he's nuts (politely, you know... like this: 'Hey! Are you an IJUT!?!') And offer him around $400 to $500 max.

Keep looking about, if you're interested in spending that kind of money, there are a plethora of good, clean, original drum kits out there that will make you happy.

Best of...
