I'm not a Ludwig expert - but judging from the granitone inners, I'd say it's mid-late 70's. [im pretty sure there's a link here on VDF that has serial number dating]

Not sure of the finish [but man, they had some ugly ones in the 70's]

I believe the hardware is "atlas" and pretty sought after. Provided everything is original and there's no mods, drilling, etc... I'd guess the kit & hardware is worth at least $1,000.

Pointy badge = early to mid-70's. According to the badge number, 1976. Looks like a mahogany kit! I don't think that's wrap. If it's a mahogany kit, I'd ask $1200. to $1400. for the kit. They have Granitone interiors, but those are 3-ply shells under there. (Pre-6 ply which came without re-rings.)

Sweet set of drums.

I wasn't sure, Mike. I was trying real hard to see if it was grain or wrap. You're probably right though. There are way more Cortex kits out there than natural wood ones.

Cortex, if it was mahogany there would be no gap on the finish on the front of the bass drum.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Looks like sizes are 12,13,14,16,22 ?

Looking at the close up pic of the badge and the flash of the camera., I would guess it is cortex ( plastic)wrap but very hard to tell. The mahogany looks fake. Look at the bottom of the bass drum to see if there are two seem's. If it is indeed cortex then it dates between 73 and 82. The seven digit serial number was introduced on the pointy badge in mid 71 and early 72.

What are the cymbals? they play a very important part of the cost. Im not sure how anyone can put a value on these without knowing more about the cymbals.

You have a couple of b/o sticker stands. Both are Hercules, one straight and one is a boom. The hihat is a black and white "Rocker" stand and is much less desirable than the b/o stands. Looks to be a speed king pedal which is good also, and that throne is sporting the same feet as the hercules stands, so it could be a Ludwig throne, I would look for Ludwigs name on it.

I would think the value will be much different between the cortex wrap and real mahogany veneer. The seem test should answer that question. Post some close up shots of the cymbals and the stamps on them, if they have one. Im no expert just getting info from my Rob Cook book here!

Very nice kit! It is worth some good money either way!

Good luck, and Happy Thanksgiving .

Thank you!

Quite sure that is a "Pro-Beat" set up. Too shiny and smooth to be anything but Cortex, in my opinion. That set couldn't have gotten too much use-original heads! I have a friend with a 70's Vistalite that also has original heads. The 12" sounded like a paint bucket-
