Need some feedback please on a vintage Ludwig Hammered Snare Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Has anybody owned an 1982 Ludwig Hammered Supra with a Ludaloy shell 6.5 x 14 snare? What can you tell me about these snares? I have been offered one on trade that appears to be in good condition. I have never owned a hammered snare but do own a 1980 Ludwig Supra (Ludaloy) 6.5 x 14 and a 1979 BB Supra 6.5 x 14 that I bought new. I love these two snares but appreciate any insight on the hammered version. Thank you.

I had a 5X14 version of this snare & it was one of the best snares I've ever played. ...Very dry & crisp, great voice. I like the regular Supraphonic, but this was quite a few notches above.

Do you have any pictures of the snare you could post? This one has a very unusual bottom hoop. It has an angled opening like a V shape getting wider at the head than than the outer flange? I can say I have never come across a Ludwig reso snare hoop like that before.

Any idea of what this snare may be worth in good condition? The value on trade is $500.00.

you can get a new ludwig bronze hammered 6.5 for between 5-600 bucks.

Hi Mike,

Yes, it is good to know what a new bronze hammered 6.5 is going for. I'm not really looking for a new snare, but considering taking this one on trade. So value of a vintage one comes into play.
