Need some help (re: BOP Jazz fest ebay) Last viewed: 57 minutes ago

That's a great snare....and a really great price IMO....Looks original to me..I wouldn't worry at all. I have a 65 set where the badge on the 13 spins freely. I bought the tightening tool and plan on doing it one of these days...great score though. I just bought a jazzfest and a pioneer in the same finish, and didn't get as good a deal as you.

BTW, is that nickel hardware?

Well now I am a bit more concerned. Took the head off and a close look at the grommet and if it seems to be pretty loose. The grommet itself not just the badge. and maybe like pushed into the shell from the inside if that makes any sense.

My sense is maybe it hasn't been replaced but messed with a little.

Here are some very close up shots of it from different angles for anyone who wants to take a look.

bcarey13: Yes it is all nickel and appears all orig. Thanks!

IMHO, I still don't think it's been messed with...I think if the badge/grommet has been loose then just simply playing the drum will cause it to move from vibration and make the marks that you see...I think you got a steal of a deal

Thanks and yeah now that I have it apart I am falling more and more in love with it. the inside is very nice... nicer than my other jazz fest and the bearing edges are perfect, even with that very slight separation in the ring. The wrap is nearly flawless and the hardware will look almost like brand new once polished.

I am pretty amazed at how nice it is given the price. I really wish that grommet was tight and maybe I can figure out some safe way to do it but I think I will probably keep it. There is a '61 on ebay (straight auction) that I was thinking about if I returned this one but I have a feeling it is going to go for a lot more. It is all shined up and the pics show it off.

This one will be just as shiny and pristine when I am done with it though. I know that one is pre serial and all but this one is actually a closer match to the rest of my set.
