A few more pics. Heads are new, snare wires are new, and the little piece of rubber tube on the strainer has been replaced with a spring.

That is a good looking snare. I have a six lugger like that from a little earlier. It was meant to be a stained drum with an "M" stamped inside. The finish had been pretty well hacked up. At some point a previous owner had spraypainted it bright orange. I pulled it apart, cleaned the chrome and decided to wrap it in Marine Pearl even though it made for a moderately tight head fit. It looks great now, and fortunately the spray paint came off of the badge without too much trouble.

I am going to have to look at my strainer and see if I can do what you did. It does not want to engage unless you pull up on the tension knob. It's a really great sounding snare with a ton of dry crack to it.

Thanks for posting!

Thanks, guys!

tnsquint-I still have a few springs left. They seem to be just the right size. If you still have the washer and the circlip that retains it, you can make it work. Can't tell you how long I spent on my knees looking for that little circlip after it shot off while trying to reassemble the strainer. And you're right, it's a good sounding snare, especially since the lugs have been packed. That step is a MUST.
