Decided to experiment by removing my rack toms from my bass drum and

stand mount them. So far loving the richer sounds! Especially from the once

dead sounding 13" that I had put away.

Now I know why so many of y'all do this.

Have to get comfortable with the hard left tom though.

I played the same setup for years. Have thought about going back to it........if I can get my LA Camco 14x14 back from Jolo.

Beautiful looking kit great set up. Best sounding drums on the planet nothing else compares not wood, or plastic. Best drums for playing live, superior projection and volume.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Biggie:

I just made the jump this summer with a Gibraltar suspension rig for my rack toms. It does change those sounds for the better but I hear you on getting to that far left drum. I've got a crash hanging in there too. You almost need to create a window of access and mind you don't slice the left hand on the hats. But it's a risk well-rewarded that will continue to get easier.

Thanks guys.

I still can't get over how much better the toms sound.

Why didn't I do this a lot sooner.

Stinn,

Right-on about getting close to the hats.

I'm trying a slightly wider leg spread to get me further away.

It'll take some getting used to.

my rig is just like yours, Biggie, two up and two down. I find it hard to get the hat much wider and then have any chance to reach the second floor tom. That one doesn't get much play, mostly rolls with mallets to close down some wammer-jammer like Hot 'Lanta. And even then, I pull my feet off both pedals to get turned enough to square my shoulders on the FT.

Short answer: more Aleve.

I use that set up often. What I do is sit the double Tom stand directly in front of me with the snare exactly between the two toms and my legs, with the kick drum off to the right just a little. You can get to everything easily. I even put a cymbal mount on the Tom stand so my crash is between the mounted toms or over to the left just a little. I don't use that floor Tom on the left and put my hihat stand there with the cymbal almost touching the left Tom.

I used that kind of setup for years.

I have tried to go back to it with my current kit and I can never get it right.

It just doesn't work with this kit.

I dig the setup though.

Vibes-very good point and it`s all drummer`s erganomics here, sounds like a great idea and makes total sense to me.
