Welcome to you and Mr. Dad. Enjoy the drums and all that they bring to your life. Watch some of these old timers. They will try and convince you they invented the flam while piloting a rocket to the moon. Take it all with a grain of salt and giggle at their dementia. Embrace your youth and your passion for music. That will make for a pretty cool ride. God bless ya.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
Julia: Its is a great honor to welcome you to this amazing community called the VDF. You'll have a blast here with us and for us the older geezers is always a proud moment to realize that torch its been passed to the new generation that you represent. God bless you and your drumming and keep posting about your drums and your love for them!!!!!!
Amen to that. It's great to see a kid with a Vistalite drum set too. Totally cool. Good luck to you and we're all in admiration here of your talent for rehabbing drums. There are some middle-aged geezers too on this site. :) have fun. There's nothing like the vibe of a vintage drum..
Julia,
I echo the previous comments. It's great to see someone of your age excited about drums and drumming, especially a female...there's not enough. Keep it up and knock 'um out! Best wishes. (Keep us updated on your playing!)

Welcome to VDF, Julia - and your dad! As has been stated, it's very nice to see a youngster in admiration of vintage drums. I hope my 4 year old daughter will appreciate them when she is your age. Very nice Ludwig kit you have there!
By the way, were you able to go back and get the rest of the naugahyde wrapped Slingerland drums? I've been wondering if you had gone back for them.

We went back but the were sold. The rest of the set was painted white on the inside and only the bass drum had a badge. It looked like a lot of work but after we found out how easy the snare cleaned up, we wish we would have got the whole set, especially since it was only $25, but at least we saved the snare drum!
Last week I found a Ludwig Rocker set (I think) online. My mom says I can only have one set, so I have to get rid of this one, but is really cool. The tom drums are super small, plus it is white!

That's a shame you weren't able to rescue the others. Slingerland did not put badges on toms until 1963, so that set would be pre-'63. Oh well, you win some and you lose some.
I would not sell a Vistalite kit to buy a Rocker set if I were you. Vistas are way cooler and more valuable.

I think every drummer should have at least 2 kits. Nothing wrong with that. Now if the Rockers set is a black/white Ludwig badge then you did pretty good. Those were 1980s and still made in the US just after they moved from Chicago to Monroe, NC, if memory serves me. Nice drums. Of course, because I have a kit. The 90s and later versions were not as good in quality and have a more gawdy type of badge. Anyway, two kits are better than one :)

Hi Lynn,
To help Drummergirl in her search..Slingerland didn't put badges on the toms till LATE 1966, not 1963....
Hi and welcome. You do not or hope you don't trade those for rockers. You will regret it one day. I am sure if you stick with it you can get a second kit eventually.
