New painted head Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Thanks, Wayne. The bass drum I first started out with was my Dad's. That was 1958. His 26" Liberty bass drum had calf skin heads, and the front head was painted. This painted head project is bringing me back there. I am fortunate to know a talented artist to do this for me. I might add that modern technology really helps in the lighting. They used to have to drill massive holes to accept a light bulb fixture. You'd plug it in to an AC source and it served two purposes. 1. It kept the calf skin heads warm and dry so they didn't need constant retunes, and 2. You could backlight your artwork. Now with these two bass drums I can use a remote control to light them.Life is good.Cool1

Great story Player52 about your dad`s 1958 26" Liberty bass drum and super info too.Beautiful artwork by your talented friend and now as you said, they can be lit by remote control-perfect marriage of old & new.Enjoy those beauties of days long gone by-preservation beautiful...

When I got this kit all of the wood was painted royal blue and was a chipped up mess with the original cream underneath. I stripped it all down and refinished it. The seller never even mentioned the front head graphic. I altered it a bit and had an artist friend of mine restore it. 44 L&L Victory's
