Every year, i look forward to seeing what products my favorite drum and cymbal manufacturers are coming out with, and this year, Paiste only has a few new goodies worth mentioning. However, i thought i'd still show my Paiste brothers/sisters, what stuff they're bringing forth.
First off, is a reissue of the "900" and "900 Colorsound". Yes, colorsound..
One of the silliest ideas ever produced by Paiste IMHO..They seem to be an intermediate line,
like the Alpha and PST 7-8. They sound pretty bland, at least on their website sound bytes,
and are geared, yet again, to the hard rock, metal drummer.
The colors are -- Black, blue, red, purple, and the new simulated natural patinaed 900,
which actually looks nice, but leave little to the imagination sound wise.
The 20" and 22" rides sound nice, like a 2002 ride and 1st generation Alpha ride hybrid.
The 18-19-20" crashes also sound decent, and would make great gigging cymbals
for any young gigging/touring drummer/enthusiast..
The good news is, they came out with some new models for some of their high end lines,
such as 16" Giant Beat hi hats and 19" 20" Multi crash/rides, larger thin crashes for their Signature Dark Energy.
They also have some weird sounding effects cymbals, made in collaboration with Jack White's solo project drummer, Daru Jones, which consist of 12" PSTX hihats and 12" "ride" cymbal called PST-X DJ's 45,
which is made to resemble an old 45rpm vinyl record. They sound more like a bottom 12" hi hat cymbal. Go figure..
And finally, some very nice sounding Masters Thin 15"-16" hi hats which sound phenomenal,
22" Swish, and new thin 20-22-24 Multi crashes/rides, which to me sound like silky, buttery goodness.
As well as some new Signature Fast Medium crashes in both 18 and 20.
You Bonzo fans will enjoy those ;):D
What i was hoping they'd come out with ?
Reissue 70's black or 80's green label 505's
Giant Beat sound edge hi hats in both 14" and 15"
and maybe even a reissue of the 70's Black or 80's Brown Label 404's, and 80's Light Blue Label 2000's..
I think those would have sold like hotcakes, and would have gotten many vintage Paiste collectors,
long time and new users, pretty excited. Overall, some very nice sounding new models,
and some not so nice sounding 900 reissue Colorsounds..
