New Rogers drums Last viewed: 19 hours ago

Saw some yesterday.

They have three ply maple/poplar/maple shells; 45 degree edges, grey painted interior, lightweight hardware, classy finish - extremely well made and are not cheap. Sound familiar?

Can't believe no-one has talked about this. I have been waiting to see these drums for quite a while, researching; checking out the Sakae community online and said to me "they are like new Clevelands" I guess it means Rogers really are only now for real enthusiasts; that their history is not holding up like Gretsch or Ludwig because they are really gone. The manager said he has put together thousands of drum kits in his life in drum wholesale and retail and that the Sakae stuff is first class, from the lugs to the tension rods and everything in between. Of course, making drums for Yamaha for 20 years will teach you a trick or two.

And they sounded a heck of a lot like my Rogers too. Are they as good? Well of course not to me - but did I like them? Yes I did. I can see craftsmanship at 20 paces and these drums scream "well made". I was also attracted to their cheapest kit, shells made from mahogany with cherry interiors, supposedly at the same place Gretsch are getting their Taiwanese shells from. These drums had a great sound.

The other highlight of the day was seeing a Ludwig new classic kit up close and personal. Wow. I repeat. Wow.

Great visit to Sydney Drums.

Those are beautiful! Totally classic looking build. Are they using maple?

I got to play a Ludwig new classic kit in champaign sparkle when I was just getting started. 22/12/14/16 & a 6.5 Supra. Amazing looking and sounding kit.

Maple, poplar, maple. Supposedly like a Rogers or Gretsch RB but they look very Rogers like to me.

The Ludwigs were simply wonderful. A real legacy kit - I can see them in some collectors hands in 50 years . . .

I mentioned it earlier on this site somewhere a few months ago that Yammy had split with Sakae. No one seemed to respond on here at the time, but it will be interesting to see how Yammy deal with this. I know the new shells are from China, and that at least 5 top major UK endorsers have fled to Sakae from Yammy already. Word is to hold onto your old Sakae Yams, could be worth a few bob now. Yammy will never be the same again.
