New Score * Camco Tuxedo Snare Last viewed: 24 minutes ago

This arrived yesterday. It was a real head scratcher on EBay. Through more pics from the seller I finally figured it out. He had it listed as the more rare Camco Tuxedo Orchestra Model. Which means instead of an Economy strainer and butt it has an Aristocrat strainer and regular butt plate as well as a tone-control.

Through the pics I determined it was not an Orchestra Model as it was lacking a tone-control. I also believe this one to be a mistake. It is drilled for an Aristocrat strainer but instead of a standard butt plate it has an Economy butt. So it gives the ability to adjust wire tension from either side, sort of like a Gretsch micro-sensitive.

I have only seen one other set up like this. It was owned by DFO member jolo and ironically it was also red sparkle.

The last mystery was the strainer. The seller bought the drum and it came with the strainer disassembled . He could never figure it out. Well the guts were for an Aristocrat strainer with vertical hole spacing the same as what the drum is drilled for. But the casing is an early Tuxedo strainer with horizontal hole spacing. Although they are not designed to work together I managed to make it work.

It ended up being one of the best sounding snares I own.

I should add that I believe the grommet has been replaced. It also came with generic hoops which are probably correct for this drum. I prefer the COB hoops and had an extra pair (top hoop is actually GW). It came with chubby washers too!

DollFan54!

I had to remove your pics as you used LINKS and files that were HUGE ... way too big! Can you PLEASE get 'em back up as attachments? That is the format we have always used on the VDF, and David has his reasons for that too. Well, outside of the fact that links eventually all go ... DEAD. Plus, the file sizes are almost always too large, and blow everything else off the page. THANKS!!!

Sorry you're having difficulty with the pics Steve. I really have no idea why it's so easy for the majority, but others have issues. I do know that pic files have to be "trimmed" to function here, but... you have put up many other pics as attachments with no problems! Just one of those things with these particular files I guess. THANKS for the effort though!

Actually I have never used the attached method. One problem I have maybe the fact that I post from my phone and not a computer.

Great score. I had my eye on that one too. Nice that it turned out to be a great sounding drum. Enjoy!

I suspect that is indeed the case! Others have had issue when uploading from their mobile device too!

That's funny- I have the same drum that someone mounted a Yamaha strainer to. Also red sparkle.
