New to me old Ludwig NOB - and some questions Last viewed: 1 minute ago

From Powertone

I knew you would get it dialed in and experience just how special they are. Did you try out the triple flange NOB hoops yet?

Not yet. The Aquarian equivalent of an Ambassador (with a power dot) that's on the Jazz Fest still has a good bit of life in it...and they don't wear out nearly as fast as the Ambassador is wearing out. I'm going to use the Jazz Fest as much as possible in the next month, or however long the head lasts, so I have a reason to pull the hoops off. At that time, I'll just put the die cast hoops on the Jazz Fest for a while and use the NOB with the NOB triple flange hoops. I'll give an update when I do. I can say that it sounds amazing right now, though! Clapping Happy2Yes Sir

I found a correct snare side hoop on eBay! So, I put it back together after robbing some new NOB clips and newly-plated nickel rods off a drum I'm not using. Now if I could just find 8 more correct rods and the correct 338 - and a heater like the one that used to fill those extra holes - I'd be stoked! I bid on a later 338 this past week, but wasn't willing to bid too high (and I didn't win it) considering I just paid about $45 for the P-80 - which is working great - and because it wasn't the exact version that this one would have had.

Also, I replaced the Phillips head screws on the P-80 for some era-correct-looking slot-head machine screws. The Navy drove "attention to detail" into my head, so I just can't overlook even the little things. But, I sure do miss a lot still. Funny how that works.
