New to the site. Need help identifying Slingerland kit. Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Hi everyone. I am hoping someone can help me identify the series kit my son is selling on Ebay so I can have a better informed description.

It is a Nov/64 four piece set in sparkle blue. Each shell is stamped inside and the kick and snare have badges with numbers. The most unusual thing I see in the kit is that the kick has no attachment holes. Only the airvent/badge hole and a pair of legs. I have it listed on Ebay if anyone is interested in looking at the pics. I am thinking it is a jazz kit as the smaller tom fastens to a cymbal stand. Floor tom has straight legs with push=button adj. and snare is chrome. Any help here is appreciated. Here is the url for the kit : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230531543127&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

I appreciate the time. Pls. email me direct if you like.

Wow hard to tell by the photos in your listing. This is what i can see the 12" tom mount does not look like a slingerland, bass drum legs look wrong set could be a piece together set and re-covered,bass drum should have a tom mount.Photos of the edges will let ebayers know.I would check the sizes agian take the heads off and check drums could be a 8x12 tom,14x14 floor tom,14x18 bass drum..The grommet photo looks like its been removed on that drum a re-covered shell??...To many if's better photos photoed on this site would help...Just a question what up with all the other drums in your photos you posted on ebay?/Mikey

Agree. I noted a handful of serious red flags. Bass claws and all. It's not a standard Slingy set and it appears to be cobbled together. Don't be insulted, but there's really nothing I can add to help you on this one, other than to educate you on the non-original aspects of this and how that will ultimately hurt the sale. Take care and welcome.

Mikey/ It's whats in my son's drum room. He has a nice DW set and he has some old antique drums. He is also a world champion bassline percussionist with the Ore. Crusaders drum line, so he has some marching stuff laying around. Typical teen, stuff just lays around. I will go out this morning and take some good pics and try to post them for you guys. thanks again.

That could be a NICE little kit. 18-12-14 jazz kits often go for premium prices, as do "virgin" bass drums with no mounting holes. Nice Gene Krupa Sound King chrome-over-brass snare, too. The added mount on the 12" drum will negatively affect value, though, as would aftermarket bass spurs and to a lesser extent, the non-original bass hoops & claws.

You should really consider taking nicer, more detailed pictures. Buyers are (rightfully) hesitant to spend on things they're not sure about. Detailed pictures set their mind as ease, and thus can boost the price potential buyers are willing to pay. And it's been my experience that nice photo staging and presentation tends to bring higher prices.

Your son's kit is a good one. It has not been cobbled together.

It is called a JET OUTFIT.

It is not supposed to have a bass mounted tom holder, but to use a snare stand as you have.

The spurs look correct on the first pictures. The additional "optional" tom holder clearly should not be there, and would affect the price to a dedicated collector only.

You could try photos with the original hoops if you have the fittings. The drums are sought after jazz sizes and I can understand why, as a player, your son wanted to fit wood hoops. Easily returned to original state if desired.

Good luck with the sale

When this post ran, the sizes were 18x16, and 14x12. Those are not standard Slingy sizes for a Jet. Now, it has evidently been corrected and the proper sizes are listed. As far as being cobbled, yes it is. There are several non-standard items here. We seem to differ on the definition of 'cobbled'. Nothing more.

You could order the Jet with a consolette and tom holder config if you wanted.

Why there would be a tom mount on the 12x8 and no consolette on the bass might raise an eyebrow or two.

I wouldn't sweat it much....

WOW.....you guys are fantastic. I just got in *drive a truck and had a long day* and alot of the info is coming together. I have just posted 7 new pics of the kit on the ebay site. I have more if you are interested. I added a blurb correcting the sizes as I took my son's word and he measures like a woman 6" being 12"... I do believe I have an 'all slingerland' kit here......just sort of odd or rare.

The objection about the 'claws' is because we had the maple hoops installed and took off the old metal hoop that only used tension rods. I have the original hoops and rods. I also have the snare-like stand for the rack tom. I will try to post pics here without looking at the rules as I am dead tired. Pls. chime in again if you see something.

thanks again everyone.

Ok with the photos you posted i think your set is what i was thinking a put together set..Now for the good snare is good..Now the Bad sets a re-covered one the first give away is the 12" tom Wrong tom mount you should have extra holes were the slingerland tom mount was drum shows none..The badge on bass drum Wrong its going the wrong way should be side to side Not up and down i also think the bass was a Floor tom what does the rims look like you have for it are to two tom rims i should have a tongue to mount the bass pedal too...Mikey
