There are some things I play that I already play heel-up (tapping the pedal with my toe) but I only use the technique when I'm playing second line grooves that call for a more splashy sound from the hats. Now, with the unit, steady 8th notes on the hats: chick, chick, chick, chick goes: chicka-chicka, chicka-chicka, chicka-chicka, chicka-chicka. Changes the whole thing. There are 'some' grooves that are improved by the doubling of the hats, but I'm starting to see that it doesn't work in all situations. There are some grooves that the doubling disrupts. Aside from brushing up on my foot technique, I will have to experiment for awhile to find out where it works, helps the groove, and where it hurts the groove. Trial and error. But it's a fun thing to mess around with and I'm sure after a short while I'll start to master it and know when to use it to best effect. Bottom line is, like a cowbell, it's a choice as to when it is appropriate to use it. It's another 'voice' to add to your kit. Another club in the bag.

Original post deleted. I have too much respect for this place and for my friends to do anything that may disrupt the Peace at VDF.

I'll eat my own words first.

I agree John, just ignore the bullying. People like that thrive on the emotional response they can get out of others. If you take the high road and not respond he'll get bored and look for someone else to bother. Please stick around. You are a valued drumming friend to many of us.

You are all right of course.

It's just frustrating as it gets for me. The mods -are- working on trying to resolve the situation. It just gets me by the ya-ya's that it has gone on unchecked this long.

Sorry to dump on you guys, it's just that it's been back to back weeks of this (as yet) unresolved nonsense and I'm more than a little bit exhausted with it all. I have always fought my own battles, I really hate having to rely on others (TommyP & Dave) to fight this one for me. I love this place and the people in it (most of them anyway,) and I am trying real hard not to be a disruptive presence here. Lets change the topic and move on. It can only get ugly. I've given this and him, all the energy I'm going to give it. I'm waiting to see how long it takes for RS to comply with the mods repeated request to remove all reference (real or implied,) to another member (me, in this case,) from his tag line. It's nothing more than Trolling and it is wrong and completely uncalled for.

Thanks for the support guys. I am genuinely sorry I brought it up. I just needed to vent I suppose.

Yes! The chicka-chicka boom thing! Still having fun on day three! Not recommended for beginners though... I think it would throw a beginner off and make it hard to master basic grooves. Added later when some limb independence has been learned, it's an awesome new tool. I'm still experimenting with it. The damn thing throws me off and I know what I'm trying to play. But... I have already found two or three grooves that it just sounds great on. It adds a 'funky' sound to the drumming. So far, me likey!

Anybody else ever play one of these?
