New User. Need help Idenitfying My Pearl Kit Last viewed: 1 hour ago

So this is my first post on here, I was considering selling my pearl kit, but as soon as i got it out of storage and set up again, I quickly changed my mine. I havent Played them for about three years and I'd love to get back into them. I would really like to know for curiosity's sake the series, what exact year and an estimate price range on these babies. I know they are from the japan series which is a little dissappointing, but I still love them and need help!

Also I can not figure out what kind of finish this is, it looks like the galaxy finish from this site, but mine's purple and the finish on the site is blue.

First off welcome to the forum, and by the way for future reference Pearl is and always has been a Japanese company,so you may want to re post in the in the vintage non U.S.A forum, I can't get the pics to enlarge,so I can't tell much,I had a pearl kit with that badge, and it was early to mid 60's,I don't know how long they used that badge but from the tom mount it looks like late 60's.Try and get pics that will enlarge, and pics of the Bass Drum Spurs,Tom and floor tom mounts, and pics of inside of shells, and pics of the snare if their is one, with pics of the throw off and butt plate. Then the experts on here will be able to tell you a lot about your kit.Love the wrap on that kit by the way.

well thanks alot, I was afraid the pics were too small, I'll be sure to get more pics and bigger ones at that. By the way, about the japan series thing, I just thought i had heard somewhere that pearl switched to the usa later on and they used higher quality wood when they did. but yeah thanks again.

Welcome! This kit is likely an early 60s kit. The badge was mostly out of use by the mid-late 60s, with the exception of Valencia kits. As for an exact year...ain't gonna happen. Japanese Pearls are all the pre-74 years. After that , only the higher end kits were built in Japan. After this time, all lower end and stencil production was moved to Taiwan. These are mahogany shells, with the possibility of some maple veneer interiors. The wrap color is "Red Grain Pearl" seen here: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/my_collection/literature/pearl/1969-pearl-catalog-15.jpg

These are, in good condition, in this economy, worth about 250-300, if you have the snare. If not, 250 is top dollar, and that is detailed thoroughly.

The tom mount is non-original, therefor any collectiblity is out the window. 200 is top dollar. Looks like either a TAMA or Luidwig mount.

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...
