Pete Stanbridge on the east coast...Here is a link to his website:http://www.stanbridgedrums.com/Stanbridge_Drum/Welcome.htmlCheers

Wow that's amazing stuff, I just spent a half hour perusing his website. What do you think of his "reno" approach to vintage gear. He adds his own touch.

1958 Gretsch Kit
1966 Kent Kit
1969 Ludwig Standard Kit
1970 Rogers Power Tone Kit
1970's Ludwig Vistalite Kit

Pete definitely is known in Canada for custom drums...I believe he only makes a handful of complete drumkits a year...His snares also has a waiting list...

I do have one of his tuning keys in my collection, which I think is a privelige to have...

I do admire his approach to vintage gear...He is very talented...

Cheers

Don't overlook that fact that many drums are made out of hollowed out logs in the third world. Think about djembes, talking drums, native American log drums and so on. My own djembe was made this way. The shell is close to an inch thick, it's ~10 years old, and has had no cracking. It's heavy, though.

So you could definitely make a drum this way if you knew how to dry the wood, but obviously it is not very practical for western drum kits.
