Hi there!

My husband bought this Ludwig snare this AM at the local flea market.

So glad we found this forum. We've been able to identify a few items so far:

Drum measures 9 x 15.

Silver and White (Enamel) Badge indicates 1935-1945.

Imperial lugs.

There are 2 sets of numbers stamped inside: 41313? and 4104.

What is confusing is the strainer; Double lever on one side reads "patent applied for". Can anyone help identify this drum? Thanks!

The numbers are the date -April, 1941 The other set of numbers I'm not sure, but should also be date-related because the number '41' appears again. It's probably March13, 1941....or maybe March 31st???

It's a marching snare drum or "field" drum (as indicated by it's dimensions).

The shell is probably a 3-ply layup of mahogany and poplar. The outer veneer is definitely mahogany. The hoops are maple. The lugs are "Imperial" lugs. The drum would have originally had calfskin drumheads. The drumheads on there now are modern synthetic heads.

I don't know about the strainer, but hang tight and someone who DOES know will be around shortly to answer that part of your inquiry.

Everthing O-lugs so far is on the money, the strainer is called the Super-duo strainer, the two levers are to control separate sets of snare wires one set of silk wires for pianissimo playing, a hard woven set for deep and powerful military type playing.

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Also, the Super Duo according to The Ludwig Book, was only made in 1940 and 1941.
