Not meaning to get away from The Beach Boys subject but I read somewhere that Grace Slick didn't like crash cymbals but loved the ride cymbal.I wonder if its true.

Dennis is lefty up top and righty below.Works for me as i`m righty up top and lefty below.If i were to set up my kit with my bass drum facing Dennis`s, it would be like looking into a mirror as everything would match up.Why do we do these unconventional things anyway? Must be a lefty/righty thing...

redneckdrum,i`ve never heard/read that Grace Slick didn`t like crash cymbals,but those were the days of very heavy useage of crash cymbals,so can`t say as i blame her,also her voice was more suited to the ride cymbal tones and she likely knew that as soon as the recorded tracks were played back.

[QUOTE=moonweasel;342504]I want that Strat! :)

I watched a bunch of Beach Boys concert videos last night, including two versions of their 50th Anniversary tour concert. Al is always playing an Olympic White Strat with a rosewood fingerboard. Could it be the same guitar 50 years later?

I would bet he still has the original as he is a gear head. Something tells me he tours with a reissue.

Surrounded by drummers here! (I am a guitarist.)

Hal Blaine used the same set up for the Beach Boys as for the Phil Spector recordings...snare & floor tom together, little or no cymbals or hi hat eighths. Lower pitched snare for the Beach boys. Sometimes you can hear eighth notes with a mallet on the floor tom. Tamborine or castanets would be overdubbed.
