. When I play "cross stick" in the studio, where consistency is king, I mark a small 'target' on the batter head where the bead goes (about the size of a quarter) and also draw a line around the stick 'handle' as a guide. This way I am hitting the rim with the 'sweet' part of the stick and the bead is at the same position on the head. It works great!

That is a fabulous Tip !!! I'm gonna find the sweet spot on all of my gigging snares and follow your reccomendation and mark the bead and line of the stick in pencil. For fast Latin patterns where you're alternating between the cross stick and toms getting the very best tone on that cross stick "click" makes a world of difference , but can be hit or miss while you have to hunt for 'the spot' _ your tip solves that.
