Whatever they used for paint, it's NASTY. I have gotten a fair portion off, but I am actually switching to Aircraft Remover, as there's just a LOT on there.

Pics to come.

Just got one. It's tasty, and I am certain will make the drum sound even better.

Got most of the old, nasty white paint off. I damned-near needed dynamite to get that stuff off!!! Several passes with Citrustrip, followed by a few passes of Aircraft Remover yielded a nearly stripped drum. I need to get more Citrustrip to finish the job!!!

Yes, I cleaned the drum thoroughly of stripper with Odourless Mineral Spirits between each pass.

How long are you letting the Citristrip sit before scraping? It needs some time to do its job. For thick/tough paint, it may need to sit for a few hours or more.

Yep, my maple exterior Slingy shells from the 50s had multiple layers of paint applied over the years .. red, blue, green, and the original white.

It took a couple of hours to melt it all down. The floor shell weighed about three pounds less when done..... geez !

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
