I got this photo via facebook page "Poking Smot."

It features Jimi Hendrix, looking somewhat... aehm, distracted, sitting behind a drumset. We can see that it's a Premier with a Supraphonic snare. So-

-we got Jimi behind a drumkit

-it's a Premier, but look at the finish! Unusual, right? Looks more like something that would appear on an MIJ.

-the drumhead on the floor tom looks black. I doubt ebony heads were offered back then?

Anyway, it's mainly a great photo. I have it hanging in my bedroom.

Yep it's a Premier alright. That finish is the same as my Uncle's Premier kit he had when I was a young'un. It's a Blue Pearl similar to the "Ringo" finish.

About the Black head, I'm not so sure but that could be a combination of discolourment and camera angle.

Jimi on the kit! Looking good but possibly a case of all the gear and no idea? lol

It's called Oyster..and Mitch had a set in that finish...so I bet it was his..and Jimi was taking a "smoke break" behind it..

I saw a stray Prem tom in that finish on CL the other week....I really like that finish, but hard to find..so I could wait forever to complete a kit...

The most interesting thing I noticed in this picture is not the drums, but Hendrix's left-handed traditional grip. Most non-drummers will sit down behind a set and instantly settle into matched grip. Any Hendrix experts out there know what kind of drummer he was?

I just looked at the thread and that's the first thing that came to mind as well. There must be a reason behind his choice of grips. Maybe he could even play. I really don't know but, I find it very interesting. Hmmm...

Remember. He played a right hand guitar left handed.

Ed Kramer said in an interview that Jimi spent time behind the drums at Electric Ladyland and even recorded some tracks. I don't think he ever played drums on his own records, but according to Kramer, he spent time playing the kit at the studio.

Too many great drums to list here!
