Nylon Tips or Wood? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

Gentlemen:

Last night there was a picture of Ringo in the local newspaper to promote his gig at the casino in Niagara Falls in the summer. The picture clearly showed him using wooden sticks, Ludwig, I'm sure. I prefer the sound of nylon tips on my cymbals but I'm sure there are many who would disagree. I play rock but, use light 7-A's, held in the traditional manner ( when I was a kid, I loved jazz). I was just curious what my fellow members used and why they preferred one stick over another. Thank you very much.

Nylon tip ProMark 5A in the right hand and a wood tip 5A in the left hand, best of both worlds.

Nylon.

Only because they sound great on my ride cymbal.

Other than that I don't really care.

I use wood tips. I used to use nylon tips for certain gigs, but I just don't like all of that unnecessary "click". If I want a click sound from my cymbals, I'll use the click grip...

Back when I had cheaper cymbals I used nylon tips. After I got the good stuff, I found I didn't need nylon to get quality sound so I only use wood tips and have for 30 years or so. Much warmer sound IMHO, better for dinner music too while the guests are munching down.

I always prefer the wood tip sound over the nylon. Just my ear I guess. Nylon tips wear much better. As the wood tips splinter and break they do suck. I've been using Pro Mark hickory Rock 747's. Nice sticks. I've been looking at different sticks online and saw the Pro Mark Danny Seraphine sig model which have a neat bevel in them. Supposedly give a nice neutral balanced feel with both match and traditional grips. I might try a set of those next time I see them in the store.

Nylon. I don't care about sound. They last longer and don't get sharp edges on them from splintering away after an elbow-dislocating assault on a crash cymbal.........

Nylon tips, 5A.

Just what I've used for a long, long, long, time. And when you get to be my age you resist change...
