Odd Bidding vs Buy-it-Now Lately Last viewed: 3 hours ago

Loading...

There seems to have been some odd bidding going on at eBay lately. A black diamond Rogers set just sold on bid at $1699 with buy it now of $1799. The companion snare with buy-it-now at $549 sold for $539. Seems very coincidental that both went of so close to the buy-it now, and even weirder that they went off at $_99 and $_39. Too weird to be believable. There has been some other similarly odd ones lately.

Anyone else notice it, or is it just me?

In any event, $2238 for a 4-piece BDP Rogers from the Dayton speckled era is rather encouraging. Surf's up!

I have gotten to the point with Ebay that I only look at "true" auctions.

Funny... the only thing I really pay any attention to is the 'buy it now' stuff normally. I'll do an auction now and then if it's something I 'REALLY' want, like the Avocado Jazz sizes I just got, but that's about it.

Actually, I'm more looking for bits and pieces nowadays.

Good or bad, eBay is a great resource for 'stuff'.

Yes - 'eBay is a great resource for 'stuff' - but I would like to see other sites, like Reverb.com for instance, really take off and become eBays competition.

I too have seen some what I think is 'funny' bidding/sales on eBay lately.

Ebay doesn't want to be in the auction business. They want to be Amazon.

Dan - prices based on what is potentially a case of shill bidding, is not a 'real' number! If those drums were purchased at that price in a clean auction, then you might have your market indicator, but there are too many phony-baloney scams running out there that are -intentionally- hard to detect. The way I do it is; I take the last three sold item prices for comparable equipment and I average it out. I usually get an honest ball-park figure for current value. But I wouldn't get excited over a high price realized in a questionable auction.

John

Too many great drums to list here!

Seems a good policy John. I'll start some data collection myself.
