Odd Slingy bass interior Last viewed: 1 hour ago

OK, I picked up a red sparkle mid 70's Slingy set (20, 13, 16) and the bass has a bizarre aluminum sheathing interior. Very well done I have to say, though. I'm almost certain this was an owners addition, but just wanted to ask to be sure. Before I remove it and buy shorter replacement screws, etc. that is.

WHAT YOU HAVE IS FACTORY-APPLIED ALUMINUM INNER WRAP THAT

SLINGERLAND MADE IN THE 1970'S. DOES YOUR BASS DRUM HAVE

ONE OR TWO RE-RINGS??? I HAVE A EARLY 70'S PURPLE SPARKLE

SET THAT HAS ONLY 1 RE-RING ON THE BASS BATTER SIDE. IF YOU LOOK

IN THE SLINGERLAND DRUM CATALOG SECTION. ALSO, THIS BASS IS OPEN

SIDED AND HAS NO OUTER HEAD OR WOOD HOOP/RIM. STRANGLEY, THE

TOMS ALL HAVE RE-RINGS ON BOTH ENDS, BUT HAVE ONLY RIMS AND LUGS

ON THE BATTER SIDE. SO, YOUR ALUMINUM INNER LINING ON YOUR BASS

IS ORIGINAL AND CORRECT. I HAVE BEEN TEMPTED MANY TIMES TO

REMOVE THE ALUM. WRAP AND INSTALL AN OUTER RE-RING AND OUTER

LUGS, BUT I FEEL THAT IN TIME THIS SET IS GOING TO BE WORTH MORE

YEARS FROM NOW IF THEY ARE LEFT ORIGINAL. i GUESS I THINK THAT

OTHERS WITH THIS SITUATION WILL CHANGE THEIRS, MAKING IT NOT

WORTH AS MUCH AS AN UNALTERED SET.

If You Look In The 1973 Slingerland Catalog, You'll See

A Set Named The Pop Outfit #58 N. It's Shown In Red Swirl Wrap.

Is This Your Set. I Forgot To Mention, Does Your Bass Drum Have A

Chrome Ring On The Outer Edge Of The Shell As This Set Has??

In the cat it reads rippled chrome vinyl, so maybe not the aluminum... probably looks like it, though !

Mine is double headed, red sparkle, cannot remember the rering configuration. Finally finished the bathroom renovation this weekend so I'll post pics in a day or two. Thanks!!

It's definitely a Slingy interior. Looked at the bass lugs and the batter is slightly different than the reso side. Looks like someone added the reso side at some point, very well done. I do remember the reso bearing edge being flat when I put the head on. Have to get time from work and playing to take it off for pics.
