Officially is this a Supraphonic or Acrolite? Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

This snare came with a vintage Slingerland kit purchased on ebay over 5 years ago.

Size: 14 x 6.5"

Lugs: Imperial (10 lugs total)

Strainer: 2-hole Blackface

Hoops: triple flange

Tone control knob: 1 inch diameter

Badge: pointed blue & olive

Serial number: 1306443

Question: Is this a Supraphonic without the chrome finish or an early Acrolite with Imperial lugs? My first thought was Acrolite but I've removed the lugs and there is no indication that his drum was ever fitted with bow tie lugs. The outer shell is super smooth. Unfortunately there are no stamps or markings on the inside of the shell. Would I be right to date this around 1977?

Thanks for your help,

Anthony

those have been called 10 lug acrolites. most that ive seen have had the bowtie lugs however. that's a beauty..

technically, youre right about the supra thing though. its a supra that does not have the chrome finish.

I have just the opposite with Bowtie lugs and chrome Ludalloy shell with Chicago Keystone badge. Did they run out of Imperial lugs that day? I have heard of this type snare coming with the 75th anniversary kits, but I have no definitive answer really. Great snare though. I would say this is a Supraphonic.

vibes-great snare! I just bought one of those in the 5" version. 10 lugs, chrome, large Chicago badge with no serial number. large portion of my badge goes under the head. shell was certainly meant for a b/o badge. how about yours?
