Here's an old 13 inch tom from back in the day.

3-ply.... huge reinforcement rings... the lugs seem to be cast aluminum, very old, but may not go on the drum originally, as there is a rise on the underside as if to go on a beaded shell. There is a stamp inside each lug... looks like a fancy 'T" or something.

The rims are MIJ Ludwig clones, so I didn't include any pics of them... same for the t-rods.

There is some writing on the bottom ring about the drum being a 1927 Duplex, and the second owner being a cat in a band named Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts which is an actual band, but the 1927 Duplex thing, I have no idea about.

No badge, any help on ID is much appreciated !!

I see no obvious reasons to doubt the writing on the rering. Most of the drum companys were using some form of cast lug around that time, give or take a few years. And I've seen a RK with giant rerings, specifically a mid-30's mounted tom.I am a little surprised that its double headed and not a tacked reso.Could it be a tenor drum?

Ok Kev,My guess the shell looks 30s radio king to me,iam thinking the lugs were added at one time i dont recall Duplex ever making a lug out of aluminum, the only aluminum lugs i have seen have been on english made drums of the 30s-40s but cant recall the name..i will look at some catalogs and see if i can fine anything like your lugs...Mikey

Hey Kevin,

Jeff is still active and gigging around Portland. Ran into him a few years back, really great guy. The guys at Allegra Drums should be able to get you in contact with him. I bet he would talk your ear off about the drum / drums in general. Might be worth a shot.

BTW Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts have been a fixture in and around Portland for decades, and Jeff is a true pro's pro. No idea why he would write his name inside a drum like that, though I bet there's a good story there!

Perhaps this thread should be in the Non-USA section - as that may be your ID?

Wait - that was a bonehead moment....Duplex - St. Louis....

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!
