Old and new drums at work Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Loading...

Been busy playing gigs with my two bands and doing session work. One night a couple weeks ago I backed up Dylan and then played with my main band. I let some other bands use my Club Dates. First drummer no issues. Next guy decides to just lay my 67 Acro on its side on the stage. I went off on him. Anyway no one ever uses my drums again (except for my Sonor endorser friends).

I took this shot of the said offender; at least my kit looked nice.

I attached a picture of Dylan and myself. He played all electronic dance music so it was fun just playing to the backing track. The Club date bass drum sounded amazing.

At my gig Saturday night I used my Sonor drums along with my Gretsch Round Badge 4157. I have to say I love this snare. Even with just a camera recording and no mics it cut through well.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

That looks like fun and the Club dates look great!

It's funny as I hear guys complain about Backline gear all the time. (They don't complain about mine though). For those of us who provide Backline rentals, I would just like to complain about musicians for a moment. Talk about guys that disrespect gear. I have seen some really crappy antics. Laying a snare drum on it's side is nothing (hopefully the deck was carpeted). My favorite is when guys decide to help themselves to cymbal sleeves and felts or any other parts they figure they need more than me. "Hey, I need some of those. I am sure the owner won't mind." Morons I tell you. The fact is, if I am teching an event I carry a large road case full of spare parts. Heck, if you came through to play your 35 minute set and had a snare drum that needed some TLC, I would fix it for you no charge. But just throw my unused cymbals and unused drums wherever is convenient. Ugh. I actually had a guy the other day who needed the bottom of a cymbal stand with a clamp for his laptop. His solution as to what to do with the unused portion of the boom stand? Toss it off the back of the riser with the Sabian HHX still installed. Bless his heart.

Climbing off my soapbox.

Dylan is the dude with the blue shirt.

http://www.reverbnation.com/dylanmichaelmusic

He is very big in the LGBT community. I met him when I played the "Pride" fest in Charlotte last year. Very cool guy to work for. Almost makes me think like JoJo Mayer when I am coming up with stuff to play for him.

Yeah the snare on its side no big deal - BUT....it was just on its side on top of a bunch of cables and such. Seems to me if someone let me use their kit I would not treat their gear like that.

I hear you on folks taking advantage of your back line. That would tick me off also. Overall is it worth the time and money to put in a kit to provide backlines? I had thought about it with the vintage gear but would only feel ok providing "players" grade stuff.

I guess me being 32 makes me young? lol Years ago when I played the Warped tour at 20 I thought that was young. Another video from my punk bands first show. I will be rotating all of my vintage kits through this band and my main band.
