Old Gon Bops for sale Last viewed: 2 minutes ago

This Gon Bops Mahogany 11.25 fat bellied Gon bops conga is for sale.

A very nice sounding drum - very solid, with no cracks and a new, high end skin.

This is one attractive and functional drum, about 40 years old, but plays like new. The right angle sideplates are the feature that dates this drum to late 50's, early 60's. Later Gon bops side plates are slightly curved on the sides.

I restore and play these instruments for a living, and my work is detailed on my blog:

http://congadr.blogspot.com/

I also sell the nicest conga and bongo skins around. Drop me a line for a quote on any work, or if you are looking for any rare congas.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi all--new to this site, very cool forum. Fantastic drum, been looking for the match for my 10.5" of similar vintage (just a bit younger). Is it still available? Very interested, let's talk ASAP. I've viewed your blog for advice on vintage gon bops--thanks. If not this one, have been at dead ends trying to find the tumba and quinto sizes; any help for me?

Greetings mate..I have just recently discovered this site. The reason I am writing you is: I have a set of vintage oak-shell gon bops. Where can I do some research to find out what year they were made?..I am thinking late 60's ish. Also I need to try to restore them...corrosion on some of the hardware and a small crack in one of the staves in the middle of what in-experienced wood workers like me would call a knot. I do want to sell them and wonder what they are worth as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated... you can e-mail me if you'd like at [email protected]

Hi Tony,

I'm a 'newbie' subscriber to this forum... have been a reader for many years, and also of your own website and expertise. I'm aware that you likely don't have the specific Gon Bops conga (above posting) in your possession any more, but am interested whether you might have or know of a vintage 80's Gon Bops 11.5" large conga for sale. I'm looking for the Series with the four aluminum bands around the shell (mahogany), for example the Voodoo, or International Series. I have a quinto 9.75", a conga 10.75", and a tumba 12.25", so you can see where I would like to incorporate this drum. If you need any more specifics like a photo, please let me know. Thanks for listening.

warm regards

mikef
