Why did they pick that weird looking kid (Zombie-boy) for their logo? I suspect the model was an aged photo of old man Ludwig himself when he was a lad! Really cool ad, I love the graphics. 'Old-timey.'

I am glad some of you Guys express some interest...

I attach another from the same dealership.. published in 1930. In OZ many of our historic Newspapers & magazines are being "digitised", currently up to mid 50's. I have been utilising the on line search facility for several years in my "Family Research Hobby". On the weekend I thought I'd see when some of the U.S. drums first hit our sunny shores.. and in the process came across a "chitload of info".

In brief..

The first Ludwig/ Leedy ads appeared around 1924, along with Slingerland Banjos.. The first reference to Slingerland Drums seems around 1937..Some of the ads are "Doozys".. and I will post some of the "better" ones in due course.

If anyone would like a larger copy of these two, they are around A4 size and could look good in a frame on the right paper... PM me and I'll email them to you.

I have learned quite a bit on Eugene Krupa & Mr Rich as well.. They both toured here in 1954.. earlier Buddy also worked here with his parents for six months, as a child. Gene was in 1954 the highest paid U.S. artist ever from any field, to hit our shores on 10,000 USD per week. He also was "Mobbed" by teenagers wherever he went.. and had to be carried off stage after a gig (suffering from food poisoning)... Also published, are many quotes from both of these two from interviews carried out thoughout their tours..

I was suprised that Buddy was known to put out very favorable accolades for Gene during interviews..

I have also found some articles on Drouyn Aussie drums that I will pass on to Mr "Troutstudio" also in due course..

Cheers

John

Oh, Ghod! Biker bars!!! (Chill runs up spine.) Got some bad associations with those establishments. Although, back in the day, playing university frat parties wasn't much better, or safer! Like you said; 'play lots of "Steppenwolf" and pray'! LOL
