Old Rogers, need Value Please Last viewed: 0 seconds ago

Hello, 'old' Drummers. First post, first visit.

After a 50year hiatus from sitting on the throne, I decided to get back into drumming.

A local store has an old set of Rogers (my 1st set was a Gene Krupa Mother of Pearl Slingerland) for sale. I am trying to get a value, as well as some info as to their worth.

I will attempt to post some pictures, which I have several. The inner rims seem to have a metal rim insert below the head. The shells are maple.

It is a 4piece set, no snare. The only visible blemish is on the kick drum, as seen in the picture.

He is asking $850

Greetings sir! Congratulations on getting back into drumming. It never really leaves you though.

There are some serious Rogers experts here that can tell you everything you want to know about that kit. Rogers drums are very well though of around here or at least up until Yamaha started making them in Japan.

I don't know if Rogers ever produced a solid yellow kit but they may have. If not, they have been re-wrapped by a Tony Williams fan. Let's hear what Ploughman or some of the other Rogers gurus have to say.

Nice kit, I think they call that color spanish gold. With the crack in the wrap and the one bass hoop not being original I'd say that kit is worth $400 tops.

I'm a amateur in many ways but I'll take a stab at an assessment and see how I fare with what the experts say when they chime in.

Looks late 60s. Front bass drum hoop does not look original. Odd color wrap for Rogers but I may be wrong. $850 seems little bit high but not too bad. Offer $700 if you're in love with it. Definitely worth more than $400 - just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Very cool! Rare Spanish Gold Wrap. Awesome looking kit. I would certainly guess barring anything seriously wrong (extra holes, tears in the wrap) it is worth the money. Most likely a later Fullerton Powertone kit but I will let the real Rogers guys chime in on that.

I would shoot for less then $850.00 with that tear in the wrap on the kick. Still thinks it is worth that as clean as the rest of the kit looks in the pics.

Couple of years ago that would have been a fair price but not in today's market. If you manage to work a deal with the guy there is a 14x22 spanish gold Rogers bass shell on ebay right now for $60 BIN and I have a 22" hoop with spanish gold inlay. It needs a repaint but the inlay is perfect.

I am thinking the kit is 1969 by the earliest, that is when the cortex wraps started,I would take a close look at that kit, if that is a cortex(thinner version of formica,it should be tough as nails,so I would check to see if that drum took a hell of a lick.If spanish gold is not a cortex wrap you are probably ok.

Look in side the shells, the inside should be gray and white speckled paint.and look for paper tags, the tags could say Fullerton california, that would make it 1969 -1971,tag that says 9/72 would make them 1972 -1975 ish.

If the kit is original,no extra holes or irreversible modifications and no crack in the wrap,I would say 850.00 would be very reasonable for a store kit, they do have overhead, after all,but I think that kit will sit there awhile at 850.00,it is a swivomatic hardware kit,so I think it is worth more than 400.00. Very nice drums, great sound IMO and great build quality.I think 700.00 is a good deal for both of you esp if you really dig the wrap.

By the way, welcome to the forum.

Looks like replacement claws on back rim. Might be replacement rods as well, hard to make out in the pictures. There's $75-100 replacement right there. Recommend you pull the bottom heads and see what the bearings edges look like. And compare the tension rods on all the toms to make sure no replacements there as well. These came out in the era of taking bottom heads off, and bearing edges and tension rods suffered in the process.

Cracked wrap would be a problem for me, but if you find a replacement shell, all the better. The one on ebay right now look like it needs some bearing edge work, despite what the seller says. And not sure if it had a tom mount drilled already. All figure into the full value of your buy. You could sell the old shell for a project to recoup some cash.

I'm thinking $600 with the work/parts needed to be more than true players set.

My 67-69 rogers dayton/fullerton had an orig asking price of $1000 at the pawn shop and that included the 20" kick drum, 16" floor tom and 12&13" toms, snare stand and throne. I got them down to $600 so it was just under $650 with tax. My kick drum wrap has since developed a large saddening crack and the drums had a few minor imperfections such as some dolt carving his name in the mounts and the mufflers in the toms and kick missing. I say $500 is a fair deal. A very good deal considering that theyre ****in rogers!!! and script logo early fullertons right?
