One more tom mounting tips? Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Loading...

Hola!

I have the 60's Ludwig set with 20" bd, 13" tom and two 16" floor toms. Soon a "new" 12" tom arrives and I've been thinking how to mount it. There is the good old rail consolette on the bass drum for the 13 incher, but can it be used for two toms also? Some kind of U shaped arm for both toms?

I don't like extra tom stands, but maybe a mounting bracket on a cymbal stand might not be too clumsy.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

This is the time that you find extra holes because someone has centered the rail and used two toms on two holders or you find a second matching rail on the other side and come ask, Is this original ?

That hasn`t happened to you yet, I hope not. Your kit was made that way and the outfit with two toms has a different center mount. I would put up with that extra stand and not alter the unaltered drum.

How come your Hurcules stands have nice shoes on their feet and mine have crappy rubbers ?

Only made one year, 1976 correct? I swear by them. If you want double rack toms, I think the best option is to find a mathing swivel-foot base and use a period-correct double holder on it. If you remove the consolette, you might find a couple small rounded chrome plates with holes to match, reinstalling the original consolette bolts. Would look sharp.

Agreed. A Ludwig double-tom stand positioned right in front of the snare is the best vintage option; however, if you're going for the bass mounted, double tom "Hollywood" look, clamp a tom arm onto the ride cymbal stand. A modern Gibralter arm will work.
