When you are a signed recording artist, and have an endorsement with Ludwig, one of the perks of this holy anointing is that you get to ask the Luddites for any oddball drum your heart desires, and such was the case with a Southern California recording artist who ordered this thing:

A 14" x 8 " Clear Vistalite Tom.

I bought it and got rid of the LAPAM mount and sold it quickly on Ebay to recoup some of my losses.

Since it won't fit into the scheme of things on my rack, size wise, there is only one thing to do:

THE COLISEETHRU

I will add a strainer, butt, and bottom hoop and I will have a Coliseum, at least a Coliseum shell but without the extra lugs. Of course I will use the appropriate throwoff and butt that Vistalites use and all that.

I imagine the results will be interesting, heavy on the decibels ..

And I will have the only one !

Then someday, if my band ever gets signed and I get a Ludwig deal, this will become my Signature Edition Snare.

A Lad can dream can't he? Even if he is a Slingerlad ?

I love the name!

But I know already that won't be a snare I'd like.

How about a 15" piccolo? That might be my signature snare. Fat, but thin at the same time. The roaring whisper...

I have a 14" x 10 Ludwig Classic snare that I love, and use all the time with my drumkit, so a 8 inch deep version would be just fine I think.

14X10! That sounds like an old field drum...

I had a COW 14X10 Slingerland I got at a yard sale in the 80's... I cleaned it up, removed the leg support and traded it to a (metal head) fellow drummer in school for a set of cranks for my BMX bike.

I also got a red sparkle 15X12 marcher that ended up being converted to a 15" rack tom on my kit. That one had (real) gut snares on it too...

This makes me wonder if the 14x10 clear Vistalite tom I'm using as a floor tom is a one-off/custom order of some sort, it's not your typical tom size but I like it a lot!

14x10 was actually a common size. I have had lots of Ludwig 14x10 toms. The 14x8 on the other hand is a rare beast.

Of course you will have equal length t-rods on the top and bottom, plus work out that splay issue on your sig snare. Maybe get all the same rods too .
