Opinions on snare stand make and model Last viewed: 7 hours ago

Hi all,

Check out this snare stand being offered on eBay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=181056607734&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

That "Hollywood" designation just didn't seem right to me. After some detective work, I found that this is the Camco 600 snare stand. I've just never read, or heard, of any "Hollywood accessories" from Ludwig. Yeah, there's the Hollywood kit, but that's different!

I contacted the seller and let him know I truly believe this is a Camco 600 snare stand. Here's his reply: "... I bought the set from henrey adler drum shop in mahattan ny in 1960 he told me this was a hollywood stand as well as the hi hat I bought did you ever stop to think that maybe this company made the same for camco as they made many stands for many companys and I would take henrey adlers word any day of the week but his is no longer alive thanks for your intrest".

The issue I have with this is that you could easily tell the difference between snare drum stands from Camco, Gretsch, Ludwig, Rogers and Slingerland. That telltale thick circular piece that the T bolt screws into is what tipped me off to this being a Camco stand. Finally, here's a picture of a complete set of Camco hardware from a beautiful 60's kit that sold on eBay quite some time ago.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know everything when it comes to vintage drums. We're all always learning! But, don't you think I'd be able to find some mention of a "Hollywood" accessory line being offered by Ludwig?

I humbly await more authoritative information from those of you with far more knowledge than I possess.

Mark

I've had a number of Ludwig and WFL flat based stands and none of them from the early 60's have ever looked like this stand being auctioned as a "Hollywood" stand. Your Camco guess seems more likely than Ludwig. I have a Ludwig "Standard" high hat that has this type of base (single brace legs tightened by a single wing bolt under the center post), but I don't remember early snare stands in this style.
