I recently received an Oriollo Phantom 65 seamless spun aluminum 6.5" snare, having ordered it after seeing/hearing rave reviews. I'll break my random thoughts up into bad/good:

The Bad:

- I readily admit that I'm a very picky individual, but I expected better fit/finish for the price I paid. Some of my qualms are subjective, others are such that I think pretty much any drummer would be a little perturbed. The drum is handmade by a young company, so expectations need to be reasonable, but when I pay a premium over a bog-standard Acrolite, I expect at least that level of fit/finish quality.

The Good:

- The drum sounds INCREDIBLE! My very first drum was a nice Premier aluminum 6.5", and I've always liked Acros. I tend toward wood drums like WFLs, Pioneers and Jazz Fests, however, because I prefer their warmth and obvious vintage vibe. The Phantom sounds to me like the perfect blend of all my favorite snares, both wood and metal. I'm guessing the gorgeously contoured roundover top edge is a key component. It's an amazingly musical drum, and could fit very well in a tremendous variety of settings.

- It's super, super light. I couldn't believe how light it was even in the box it came well-packed in. I go to almost absurd lengths to lighten my gigging load, and this drum will help so much. The lugs even act as built-in handles to make it all the more convenient.

- The lugs and swirl finish are beautiful and unique, and the badge is a very classy, cool design.

- Vukan, the person behind Oriollo, offered fantastic customer service. Considering I ordered a drum from practically the other side of the world, I received very solid communication and relatively quick turn-around.

Yes, in that they're both a spun, seamless, beaded shell, but the top edge of the Phantom is a buttery roundover. Also, the Phantom is much lighter, and has a tone with more body.
